How to clean stainless steel appliances
Traditional stainless, fingerprint-resistant coatings and black stainless do not share one universal recipe. Check the appliance manual, use a soft nonabrasive cloth with the approved mild method, wipe in the direction of the grain where visible and dry completely to prevent water marks.

The low-risk sequence
Start smaller and milder than the mark.
A fingerprint does not need a restoration product. Escalate only when the manual allows it and the mild method has failed.
1 · Cool and power-safe
Let hot surfaces cool, follow appliance power guidance and keep water away from openings and controls.
2 · Test a small area
Confirm the finish response in an inconspicuous location when the product is new to that appliance.
3 · Clean with the grain
Use controlled passes rather than circular abrasion. Turn to a clean section of cloth as grease transfers.
4 · Rinse residue and dry
Remove remaining detergent with a clean damp cloth if directed, then dry completely with a soft cloth.
Why streaks return
Most stainless problems are product, cloth or drying problems.
Before adding polish, identify what the mark actually is and whether the finish permits polish at all.
Oily arcs
The cloth redistributed grease. Use fresh cloth sections and smaller controlled passes.
White water marks
The surface air-dried. Finish immediately with a clean, dry soft cloth.
Dull or patchy area
Unsupported product or abrasion may have affected the coating. Stop and consult the manufacturer rather than scrubbing harder.
Scratches across the grain
Abrasive material or cross-grain pressure may have damaged the finish. Cleaning cannot reverse physical scratching.
